Candy Cane Rescue USA
The Candy Cane Rescue USA Fundraising Group was founded March 7, 2019 by and for patrons dedicated to helping raise awareness and funds for Candy Cane Rescue (CCR). CCR, founded by Kerry Lawrence in 2017, is a United Kingdom-based charity (Registered Charity Number 1179928) focused on rescuing greyhounds and other dogs from the meat trade in China. Once rescued, the dogs are rehabilitated and homed in the UK, USA, and other European countries. The founders of the USA CCR Fundraising Group are American animal and dog lovers, greyhound adopters, former board members of greyhound rescue groups, and experienced greyhound adoption supporters. We believe with great passion in Candy Cane Rescue's mission and helping them fulfill it.

No donation is too small and is very appreciated for helping rescue dogs from desperate situations in China.

Something for Everyone!

Let's face it––rescuing greyhounds and other dogs is expensive. Especially when medical expenses are factored in. And, as is the case with rescuing dogs from the China meat trade, flight and other transportation costs add up. The CCR USA Fundraising Group runs multiple fundraisers to help offset the expenses.
Hear It from a Rescuer

What's it like to be on the ground in China and rescuing greyhounds? It ain't pretty. But, there are scores of brave British, Chinese, and American folks who go into the meat markets, slaughterhouses, and underground race tracks to rescue greyhounds and other dogs under the Candy Cane Rescue umbrella.
In this episode of the "About Greyhounds" podcast, Sonia Healy Stratemann of Elite Greyhound Adoptions South Florida will take you step-by-step through her June, 2019 rescue trip to China. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the logistics involved and the amazing work and beautiful outcomes your donations are supporting.

Discover More About Candy Cane Rescue
Founded in the United Kingdom by Kerry Lawrence in 2017, CCR has rescued hundreds of dogs from the China meat trade. Once rescued, they are given loving care from Kerry's Chinese partners, provided with medical care, and, when ready, flown to the UK and the USA where they are homed, either by CCR or partner rescue groups.
The CCR USA Fundraising Team
With her husband, Albert, Jacqueline adopted her first greyhound in 2000. Since then, she has volunteered in greyhound rescue and served on a Board of Trustees for a greyhound rescue group. Jacqueline is also the host and producer of the "About Greyhounds" podcast and has fostered over 100 greyhounds with her family. Jacqueline is a writer and by day works for a Fortune 50 company; her company recognized her as the Volunteer of the Year in 2017 and 2018––this led to an electronic billboard featuring her and her greyhound Baron, being displayed on the Times Square billboard both years. She's also authored two humorous fiction books, "Son of a Dog" and "Cruise to Nowhere," both featuring rescued greyhounds. In 2019, Jacqueline and Albert adopted Felix, a Candy Cane Rescue greyhound from China.
Ellen has tirelessly worked in greyhound rescue since1995. That's when she and her husband, Bill, adopted their first greyhound. Ellen served as a long-time trustee of a greyhound rescue group and fostered countless greyhounds––nursing several to health after they suffered catastrophic racing injuries. Over the last ten years, Ellen has worked as a crisis counselor and has been a greyhound therapy dog handler specializing in NJ state disaster/terrorism mental health response. Since 2012, Ellen also took on rescue efforts of galgos and podencos in Spain and will have made her 26th New York and Madrid round trip to bring dogs to the States for placement in loving homes.
In a word, Kacie is a warrior. She and her young family have adopted rescued greyhounds and also run a rescue for smaller animals, including (but not limited to) rabbits, guinea pigs, and birds. By day, Kacie is an early childhood educator and also founded and leads Live, Love , Laugh Again, an organization dedicated to monetarily supporting nonprofits that help both people and animals.
Al is very much behind the scenes, but his contributions to CCR USA are quite visible. By day, Al is an ad agency Art Director. He designs the CCR USA event signage, along with miscellaneous art work utilized for many of our fundraisers. Al is married to Jacqueline and has worked beside her in countless greyhound rescue endeavors.
Felix Hantz von Hound
Candy Cane Rescue USA Ambassadog
An alumnus of Candy Cane Rescue, Felix was saved from a meat market in China the latter part of 2018. In February, 2019, Felix was flown to New York and immediately adopted by Jacqueline and Albert. He is, perhaps, the most silly, affectionate, and loving greyhound in the world and shines at events where he helps spread the word for his brother and sister dogs suffering in China.
Periodic Financial Reports
At The Candy Cane Rescue USA Fundraising Group, we are firm in our belief that transparency is king. Since we re not a 501(c)(3) in the USA (yet ...), publishing our financial reports in our Facebook group is something we've committed to, along with screenshots of our donation transactions with Candy Cane Rescue. Periodically, we'll post our monthly financial reports here, too.
*Our Stance on Greyhound Racing
The Candy Cane Rescue USA Fundraising Group founders are adamantly opposed to greyhound racing and will not list any organization that supports or is friendly to the racing industry. Greyhound racing is cruel and some USA racing dog owners sell their greyhounds to parties in the underground racing industry in China. There, the greyhounds are used for breeding, kept in deplorable conditions and, when they and their puppies are no longer of value to their captors, are typically sold to the meat trade. We absolutely will not associate with organizations that the National Greyhound Association (the governing body of USA greyhound racing) deems friendly to its industry.
